Scientist I, Translational Biology

JOB SUMMARY:

The Scientist I will interact with the R&D, Bio-Engineering and Clinical Science groups to generate novel therapeutic candidates and reagents for the continuous advancement of innovative immune-oncology.  As part of this directive, this individual is expected to lead preclinical efforts for a wide array of Translational Biology projects as determined by management. The individual will also interact heavily within the Translational Biology framework and as needed within the larger organization to support research activities to meet evolving company needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement immunological assays to support identification and validation of novel immunotherapy target proteins to meet project milestones.
  • Implements various in vivo and ex vivo model systems to validate pipeline molecules.
  • Conduct research and supervise associate scientists and research associates.
  • Actively facilitates the transition of knowledge base and/or projects to or from Bioengineering, R&D or Clinical Science.
  • Interacts within the Discovery group to determine delegation of various project activities within Bioengineering, R&D or Clinical Science groups as appropriate.
  • Participates in efforts toward identification, prioritization, and validation of novel target candidates.
  • Presents research to all scientific departments, management, Board of Directors, or other advisors as needed.
  • Participates in external collaborations, licensing, and partnerships as needed.
  • Assists with the implementation of intellectual property as needed.
  • Participates in the development of SOP documentation.
  • Provides support for Regulatory, Bio-Engineering, and other departments as needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

Ph.D. degree and post-doctoral training with 1-2 years’ industry or academia experience in cancer immunotherapy is highly recommended.

  • Experience in immunology is desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with tumor implantation, volume measurements, tumor infiltrating leukocytes isolation, immunological endpoint assays including FACS, ELISAs, western blots, qPCR and transcriptomic analysis
  • Experience with pre-clinical mice model is required.
  • Experience with research skills in molecular and protein biology is required.
  • Project leadership and management experience preferred

MUST POSSESS:

  • Strong working knowledge of tumor immunology and cancer biology fields required.
  • Able and willing to interact within highly productive and agile research teams.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with interdisciplinary teams, in a cross-functional environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • High degree of motivation and scientific curiosity to learn new techniques.
  • Receptiveness to feedback from senior group members.
  • Excellent record-keeping and good document skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project goals and timelines.
  • Adept at Microsoft Office applications and GraphPad Prism to be able to critically evaluate datasets.
